Individual Counseling

Are you feeling overwhelmed and stressed, or have you experienced something difficult or traumatic?
Are you looking for support to heal, or to explore something new?

I provide individual and group counseling for adults. Sessions are online or in person. My office is in Boulder, Colorado.

I focus on supporting life transitions, grief and loss, trauma healing, burnout, identity exploration, climate distress, and existential or spiritual concerns. A little more about each focus is written below. I work with people from a wide range of racial and ethnic backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations and identities, people with intercultural lives and experiences, artists and creatives, neurodivergent folks, highly sensitive people, people with disabilities, people with chronic and/or critical illness, and people who have experienced all kinds of trauma.

If you are struggling, you are not alone and I am glad you are seeking support. I would be honored to support you to move toward healing.

Focuses

I focus my support in these areas:

Life Transitions, Grief and Loss. There are so many kinds of change that we can experience, including but not limited to big life transitions. Transitions can be exciting, and can also involve difficulty. Grief and loss may be experienced with some transitions, such as the death of a loved one, moving or losing a home, starting or ending an important relationship, career changes, illness, and more. Adjustment is non-linear process, and having support can make a huge difference.

• Trauma and Burnout Support and Recovery. Trauma is an experience that anyone can have, and everyone’s experience is different. Trauma is caused by many things, from critical incidents, bullying, violence, or abuse, to the grating effects of ongoing injustice while living and working in systems of oppression. Many folks experience burnout. All of this can leave us afraid, exhausted or even too energized, depressed, and more. Recovery is possible, and counseling can be a powerful way to move toward healing.

• Identity Exploration. I support people in exploring a variety of social and cultural identities, keeping in mind my own social locations and the way these can affect the counseling relationship. I specialize in LGBTQIA2S+ affirming counseling and neurodivergent affirming counseling. LGBTQIA2S+ identities that I have experience working with include queer, gay, lesbian, bisexual, nonbinary, trans, ace, poly, and many more. Neurodivergent identities I can support include (but are not limited to), ADHDers, autistic folks, synthesthetes, and people with sensory processing differences.

• Climate Distress. Climate change is affecting us in a number of ways. You may have directly experienced a climate disaster or environmental loss. You may be having a variety of feelings coming up as you read distressing news headlines. Processing feelings and building resilience is essential for personal wellbeing, collective liberation, and the healing of our planet. Support to cope can feel like a relief.

• Existential or Spiritual Concerns. Any number of things can cause existential or spiritual concerns/crises. You may have reached a point where previous existential or spiritual understandings no longer make sense and you want to discuss this with a counselor. You may be having transpersonal, mystical, or outside-of-the-ordinary experiences that you want to talk about. Or perhaps you would like support as you explore something new.

Approach

I combine the following counseling approaches. For details on my training and credentials in these areas, please visit the About page.

• Relational – My approach focuses on our relationship as counselor and client. I attend to how the relationship feels to you, and welcome your feedback.
• Somatic Counseling – In addition to talking about concerns together, I may also invite you to notice your body sensations in the present moment. Somatic approaches are based in neuroscience and proven to help heal trauma.
• Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling – I work from a lens that affirms your identities and centers liberation.
• Creative and Nature-based – We can explore art-based therapy and connection to nature to support your healing.

Fees

I offer a free initial consultation for you to see if it feels like a fit to work with me.
After that, my sliding scale is $80-$160 per hour.

Here’s a guide for deciding how much to pay:

• If you can meet all of your basic needs (you may have debt but it does not prohibit you from meeting basic needs), you have an expendable income, are able to afford vacations or take time off from work, own or lease a car, have a secure housing situation, regular access to health care, etc., then you could consider paying on the high end of the scale. Be aware that if you are someone who can pay more, you make it possible for me to provide support to another person who does not have the same resources as you.

• If you regularly meet all of your basic needs (even though you may sometimes stress about them), have some expendable income, can occasionally afford vacations or time off, have stable housing and transportation, access to health care, etc., then you could consider paying somewhere in the middle of the sliding scale.

• If you stress about meeting basic needs, are unemployed or underemployed, qualify for public benefits, do not have stable housing or transportation, have little to no expendable income or savings, have substantial debt that sometimes prohibits you from meeting basic needs, etc., then you could consider paying at the bottom of the sliding scale. If you are not able to pay $80, I would still welcome you to contact me. If I am not able to work with you currently, then I can certainly provide you with referrals for other sources of support.

See this source where the info above comes from, and for more on sliding scale payments.

I accept credit cards, cash, and checks. I do not currently take insurance.
